A quick visit this morning in some welcome sunshine for a change. A large number of Swifts (at least 140) were feeding over North Screed, whilst the Wood Sandpiper was still around. The first brood of Coots were picking about on the edge of the rushes, whilst it was very pleasing to see that the Mute Swans have hatched their clutch of six. Mother, father and the 'kids' were swimming about in the shallow floods just over the western boundary. Also just over the boundary a Quail was calling, from the same spot as last year. Wonder if it is the same bird?
